First Blog.

This is the first time I have travelled alone. It is only for 3 weeks but I was nervous and worried about how this was going to turn out.

How and why did I come to book my flights away?
Long story short, some incredible friends took me in when I had nowhere to go, after a break up. I needed to work my notice in the UK and then I moved back to Jersey CI, where I lived originally until I was 18.
So, at a time of heartbreak and big change, it seemed like the best time for me to test out the solo travelling. I can also best describe the 'fuck it, anything goes' feeling and attitude. I booked my flights whilst watching catch up TV.

I have been working in emergency service contact centres for the last 5 years and I always felt, at the best times the job was rewarding and I love helping people, but that it didn't really take me anywhere I wanted to be. At the worst times it was just another tedious role where I was counting the hours, minutes and seconds.
I don't really know what I want to be doing in regards to career, I constantly feel like perhaps that's not important, and I believe it's only the love that you fill your life with that matters. Whether it be your family, your friends, or your lovers. Also, I feel the experiences and memories you have are beyond anything material.

Back to the travelling.
So far, I spent 5 days in the beautiful city of Amsterdam with my mum. The buildings are wonky, in a neat kind of way. It is a city built upon the water. It is one of the most laid back cities I have ever been to, and anything goes. I will visit again! The fishing villages nearby, the windmills and the cheese factories/shops are also a must.

I'm currently on day 12 of 23 in Bali and the Gili Islands.
The colours are vivid, the sun is strong, and the thought of breakfast (I don't usually like breakfast) starts me salivating at 10pm the night before.

My next post will describe more of the experiences I have had in Bali so far. But it's too much to read all at once, and too much to type!
